When are we ever truly ready to let go of someone or something we hold so deeply? In truth, we almost never are. But what would it even mean to be ready? How can a human being prepare for what is inevitable? Sooner or later, we all face that moment, and it will be different for each of us.
So it is for Orpheus. The famous singer cannot accept the death of his beloved Eurydice. His grief moves the gods, who allow him to descend into the Underworld and grant him permission to bring his wife back to the world of the living—on one condition: he must not look at her nor reveal this rule to her.
But perhaps Eurydice does not truly wish to be brought back. Perhaps, in the solitude of the underworld, she has discovered a part of herself she never knew: an inner landscape inhabited by her own furies and her most hidden desires. Returning to life would mean confronting this new identity in front of a man who loves her so deeply.
Will she be ready to face what she has discovered? And will she be able to be seen for who she has become?
